Meet Our Staff!
The Positive Learning Experiences staff is dedicated, knowledgeable and extremely motivated. We are highly qualified and we keep up-to-date with education technology and new information on ADHD research and accommodations for all grade levels, including college. We continue to educate ourselves by taking continuing education classes in topics such as Executive Functioning, Reading Comprehension, ADHD, GT, and LD.
Candace, Founder/Director of Positive Learning Experiences
Candace is the Founder and Director of PLE. She has been a private tutor since 1990. Through her experience as a Home and Hospital Teacher for Montgomery County Public Schools and as a former member of the tutoring staff at The Lab School of Washington, D.C, Candace has become familiar with the core curriculum at private and public schools in Montgomery County and the District of Columbia. During past summers, Candace worked on study skills at the Norwood School.
She earned her BS in Special Education at The University of Maryland in 1978, emphasizing elementary, middle, and high school instructional methods. She later earned her MA with Honors in Special Education at George Washington University in 1981, emphasizing Vocational Education, Middle and High School Special Needs Students, Mainstreaming, Educational Testing, and Advocacy Training. She also has over 120 Continuing Education Credits to refine her skills as an education specialist and ADHD coach.
Other achievements include: Individual Education Consultant Association Training for School Placement; Parent Association Coordinator, The McLean School, where she planned curriculums, fundraisers, and social functions; and coordinating seminars for the Council of Exceptional Children at the Intern-National Advocacy Organization. Candace works with our students in need of coaching in executive function. For students with ADHD or any special learning needs, this coaching supplements their subject area help and is imperative to their success.

Sara, Tutor/Administrative Assistant
Sara is the Administrative Assistant for PLE, working with students and parents to ensure success! She is a current undergraduate at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (Shady Grove Campus) where she is studying psychology. She has a passion and love of teaching and enjoys working with her students one on one to help them be successful in education! Sara tutors in the following subjects: Algebra, Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, English, Literature, SAT Prep and ACT Prep.

illy, Tutor
Billy provides Private Tutoring in Mathematics for students Elementary through High School in need of remediation, test taking strategies, curriculum based support, or homework help. Experienced in working with children with a variety learning disabilities, emphasizing the importance of the “Language of Math”, as a means to a better understanding of fundamental concepts as well as the big picture. He is a graduate of Elon University and received his M.Ed from University of Virginia. He has over 26 years of experience teaching in the classroom and private tutoring.
Courtney, Tutor
Courtney received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. She received her Masters degree in Biology from American University in 2006 and her B.S. in Agricultural Biotechnology from the University of Kentucky in 2003. She has always enjoyed teaching and has been a teaching assistant for many college and vet school classes including General Biology, Genetics, and Anatomy. She also tutors ACT/SAT Prep.
Mike, Tutor
Mike graduated from UT Austin with a BS in Physics, and went on to UC Davis for his advanced degree. He gained his first tutoring experience at the UT Learning Skills Center and later also taught many introductory discussion and laboratory sessions as a graduate student. He specializes in AP Physics, AP Calculus and ACT/SAT Prep.
Rebecca, Tutor
Rebecca is from Bethesda, Maryland. She graduated from Wake Forest University in 2009 and spent two years working in a medical research laboratory in North Carolina. She recently spent four months traveling through Australia and studying the effects of climate change on coral health. Her current plans are to pursue a Master of Education and teach high school science. Rebecca also tutors ACT/SAT Prep in addition to math, science and English. She loves to play ultimate frisbee and listen to new music.
